This post might seem above  young children but it does not hurt to think about how to prepare children for later schooling - especially children with special needs. Suggestions within the guide can also apply to a child no matter the age. For instance they talk about identifying a setting that works to listen to books - which might include the voice that is reading the book - if you learn from an early age on that a child attends better to a female vs a male voice it will benefit them as they are exposed to more complex texts.
